Many weed control tools are available to land managers ranging from livestock grazing to herbicides to competitive seeding. Land managers must often set priority species and priority locations to implement weed management based on biological, economic and logistic constraints. Participants in the SWAMP workshop will build their knowledge and skills in assessing and managing weed populations at the lansdscape scale. This workshop will incorporate basic weed management principles into a strategic weed management program. Topics will include:

  • Strategic planning for weed management
  • Plant identification
  • Weed distribution mapping and reporting
  • Basic sprayer calibration
  • Vegetation monitoring methods for pre-treatment assessment and post-treatment monitoring
  • Prioritization of control actions based on site characteristics and weed characteristics
  • Brainstorming session to devise a weed management strategy
  • Fun activities and more!
